DESCRIPTION
People’s Forum on Burma (PFB) was established in 1996 both by Japanese
citizens and Burmese living in Japan in order to help realize democracy in
Burma.
Burmese refugees/asylum seekers and Japanese people concerned with the
situation in Burma cooperate together to do many activities ? publishing
Newsletter, holding regular meetings to raise public awareness on Burma,
charity events, culture understanding festivals/ events and lobbying
politicians and Japanese government etc.
In Burma, in spite of 20 years after the inspiring 8888 uprising, the
military junta (SPDC) still maintains its dictatorial rule continuing
oppressing and killing civilians. People in this country continue to suffer
under the regime, and there are about more than 1100 political prisoners in
this country. Since 1988, 20 years, the situation in Burma has worsened,
despite the regime’s income.
At this occasion, we will invite 3 speakers - specialists on Burma.
Especially it is very pleasure for us to have Ms. Khin Ohmar (Coordinator of
Burma Partnership) as a special keynote speaker.
We hope that this GA will help to deepen understanding of Japanese people
about 8888 and the importance of the democratization in this country.
